Pour, Don’t Push: How to Work with Greater Depth and Greater Ease
Come and un-learn counterproductive habits while re-learning what first made you love massage. I believe many of us therapists work too hard; as we try to make our clients feel better, we push too much, both with our minds and our muscles. In turn, we begin to burn out, both mentally and physically.
But what if we pour rather than push? What if we facilitate change, rather than force change? In this hands-on class you will rediscover your most powerful therapeutic tools—your breath and your body weight—and explore how to make these innate tools more effective, even as you use less effort. We will practice:
• Using our body weight instead of our muscles
• Applying Tai Chi and Alexander Technique principles to our work
• Being mindful of our (and our client’s) breath
Using these principles we will reassess your body mechanics, and re-energize your own unique style of massage, enabling you to work more deeply with less strain, and helping your client to become an engaged partner in the work. When we pour rather than push, we find the strength in ease, and we remember how to be our own most effective therapists.
