This continuing education course is designed to review the concepts of ethical standards, professional behavior, and acknowledgement of boundaries for the patient with cancer in the therapeutic setting of home, hospital and hospice.

Major topics include: basics of ethics in healthcare, morality, virtues, client rights, practitioner responsibility, confidentiality, privacy, managing boundaries, transference, dual relationships, nondiscrimination and cultural sensitivity.

The last two hours of the course (not CE eligible) will be devoted to Jin Shin Jyutsu energy/boundaries work.

McIlvaine photo copyJoy A. McIlvaine, MS, RN-BC, ANP-BC, LAc is an educator for nurses and bodywork therapists. She has practiced acupuncture, acupressure and massage therapy concentrating in Asian styles for over 20 years. She currently works as an Assistant Director of Quality, Patient Care Services at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. She has a varied history of studies including massage therapy, therapeutic yoga, meditation, Jin Shin Jyutsu and Asian Medicine including acupressure, acupuncture and herbal therapy. She received her Masters of Oriental Medicine from the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, CA and had a private practice in Mill Valley, CA. With a desire towards the integrative vision of medicine, Joy studied nursing and received an Adult Nurse Practitioner degree from Columbia University in New York City. Her training included a specialty in Herbs, Nutraceuticals and Supplements and a second specialty in Palliative and End-of-Life Care. She also completed a post-graduate fellowship in Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine at formerly known as Beth Israel’s Center for Health and Healing. For CATA’s Oncology Massage Training and Certification curriculum, she teaches courses in Asian Bodywork & Energetics for the Symptom Management of Cancer; Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help; and Ethics, Professionalism & Boundaries.
