Class two will add meridian points on the hand, examine the definition of Qi, how to “go deep” with a frail population, review relevant research, and discuss the nursing home and hospice environment.

barbaragoldshmidtBarbara Goldschmidt, LMT is an author, educator and licensed massage therapist (New York State). She has been active in the field of integrative health care for 30 years. Barbara began practicing as a massage therapist in 1986, after completing the program at Swedish Institute. Her interest in working with people with dementia began in 1996, when she was the lead massage therapist in a study at Cobble Hill Health Center in Brooklyn, NY. In 2011, she taught massage as an alternative intervention for pain to staff at several nursing homes in New York City through a grant implemented by the Education Fund of 1199 SEIU (Service Employees International Union). She has also created a class for caregivers for the Alzheimer’s Association of New York City. She is co-author, with Niamh van Meines, of Comforting Touch in Dementia and End of Life Care: Take My Hand (Singing Dragon Books), which was “highly commended” by the British Medical Association Books Awards of 2012 in the category of “popular medicine”.
